LGD Recommendation?
Hello,
I have never owned a livestock guard dog and was wondering if anyone could recommend a breed? I have owned large dogs before and am pretty good at training them. Currently I do not have a dog but am looking for a recommendation for a guardian for my small herd of alpacas (3).
I do have chickens that roam around the land (10 acres) and a few sheep as well.

Livestock guard dogs are truly amazing. I have only owned Great Pyrenees, but I have heard both positive and negative things about all breeds of LGD’s.
With the Pyrenees I have found that they are certainly strong and love protecting all animals(including chickens and sheep). My dog “Zoe” tends to be on the serious side and I have seen this in other Pyrenees.
On the down side I would say that they shed heavy and can be very destructive when board! With having animals to protect I don’t see much problem with them experiencing boredom.
I would recommend them as I have had no major problems with this breed.
